Navigating Your Career Path: A Conversation with John Lundgren '73

Retired Stanley Black & Decker Chairman & CEO John Lundgren will discuss how best to maximize career opportunities—both internal and external—and tactics to successfully navigate bureaucracy. With a particular focus on mid-career opportunities and challenges, Lundgren will share his thoughts on leadership both within a company setting as well as through service as an outside board member.  

 

Speaker Bio

John Lundgren is a global business executive with more than 40 years of experience leading transformations and creating shareholder value within industrial and consumer organizations. In May 2017, he retired as Chairman of the Board of Stanley Black & Decker, a $14 billion diversified global company.  Lundgren served as the company’s Chairman & CEO from 2004-2016. He is currently Lead Director of the Board of Visa, Chairman of the Board of Callaway Golf Company, a Senior Advisor to Bain and Company, a member of the Board of Pella Corporation, and a member of the Advisory Board of American Securities, a leading U.S. private equity firm. He served on the Board of Staples, and its transaction sub-committee, through its sale to Sycamore Partners in Sept. 2017.

Lundgren has served as Chairman of the New England Chapter of CEO’s Against Cancer, Vice Chairman and member of the Executive Committee of NAM (National Association of Manufacturers), and as a member of the President’s Advisory Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, G100, Prium, the Business Roundtable, and the Business Council. He is a Trustee of the Connecticut Science Center, PGA Reach, and a National Trustee of The First Tee. Lundgren was a 2-time Dartmouth Varsity Golf Captain, a founding member of the Dartmouth Athletics Advisory Board, and served on the Dartmouth President’s Leadership Council. He is also a long-standing member of both The Bartlett Tower Society and the 1769 Society and was recently inducted into the Wearers of the Green, often referred to as “Dartmouth’s athletic hall of fame.”
